Consultation
Those interested in eyelid plastic surgery should first undergo an assessment. This can be done either by visiting the clinic for an assessment visit at a cost of 400 SEK, or through SMS/MMS. If opting for the latter, please send the following images:
- One image looking upwards
- One image looking straight ahead
- One image looking downwards
- One image with eyes closed
Please specify whether the images are mirrored (as selfies often are) or unmirrored (which is the case when someone else takes the pictures with your phone). If so, please send the images via MMS to my mobile at 0703312759. Assessment via MMS images is FREE of charge!
Suture removal
Removing the sutures, which should be done 6-11 days after the surgery, is included in the price. The price remains the same regardless of whether you choose to have the sutures removed elsewhere.
Payment
Payment is due on the day of the operation (or, for those coming for assessment, on the assessment day). Preferably, payment should be made via Swish (please ensure you check your Swish transaction limit at home and raise it if necessary), secondly by a combination of Swish and regular debit/credit card, thirdly by debit/credit card only, and fourthly by cash or a combination of cash and other payment methods as mentioned above.
For your information, we do not offer any form of payment afterwards, and as of March 29, 2022, payment is taken at the beginning of the visit before the actual operation begins. If you are unable to pay at that time, you will not be operated on here.
The current price for both sides is 18,000 SEK, but may change in the future. Any potential price change will be announced here at least one month in advance. The date of the surgery determines the price, not the booking date. If you only want to operate on one side, the cost is half of the mentioned price.
Before
The patient should not have consumed weak blood-thinning medications, flaxseed, or rosehip powder for 3 days. Omega-3 should not have been taken for 2 weeks! Strong blood-thinning medications should have been discussed with the relevant authority. All these substances increase the tendency to bleed.
On the day of the operation, if you use Botox, there should NOT be any remaining eyelid-affecting effects of Botox. I draw on the eyelids to plan the incisions for a good outcome, and if the eyelids are altered due to the effects of Botox, it can deceive me, ultimately leading to the patient being deceived, which is not acceptable!
On the day of the operation, the patient should come without makeup and having eaten normally.
On the day of the operation, the patient will be at my clinic for approximately 4 hours.
surgery
After “suitable incisions” have been marked, local anesthetic drops are administered, and the surgical area is cleansed with chlorhexidine solution. Local anesthesia is then injected into the skin with a syringe. This causes roughly the same discomfort as having a blood test. I make an incision along the markings with a small scalpel and trim away excess skin with scissors. Occasionally, a small amount of fat and/or muscle tissue may also be removed. In such operations, the entire thickness of the eyelid is never cut through. In other words, a “hole” is not made through the eyelid, and the eye is not accessed with the knife or any other instrument!
The surgical incision is then stitched together. These stitches should be removed, as mentioned above, after 6-11 days, possibly 4-5 days, and this is included in the price.
surgery
Everyone experiences some degree of swelling and bruising with this type of operation. Bruising is usually most prominent on the second day. Bruising on the upper eyelids typically disappears completely by the tenth to twelfth day. If bruising occurs on the lower eyelids, it may take longer to disappear, up to over three weeks. The degree of swelling mainly follows the degree of bruising, BUT THE SWELLING CANNOT BE EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETELY GONE UNTIL AFTER A MONTH.
To reduce initial swelling, the patient should lie on the operating table for 15 minutes with a cold pack on the eyelids. When at home, cold packs are generally not necessary, but many patients choose to use them because they find it comforting. A cold pack can be provided by Lindhé's Eye Clinic.
Aftercare
When newly operated, avoid touching the operated area with tap water or applying makeup for 24 hours. However, you should moisturize the operated area.
During the initial period after the operation, we recommend applying a cream called Terracortril with Polymyxin B, three times a day for 10 days. Apply a very thin layer in the morning and at midday, and a slightly thicker layer in the evening. It's preferable to store the cream in the refrigerator for easier handling.
On the 11th day, switch to Ficortril eye ointment. Ficortril eye ointment should be applied to the eyelids twice a day for a month, and then once a day for a week or slightly longer. After reducing to once a day, I believe it would be beneficial to continue applying Ficortril eye ointment as a thin layer until the tube is finished. This is not an exact science but based on my experience. However, it is a scientific fact that skin heals better when kept slightly moist rather than completely dry. One of my patients who had the least visible scars did not follow my recommendation to reduce Ficortril eye ointment to once a day after 10 days of Terracortril with Polymyxin B + 1 month of Ficortril eye ointment twice a day. Instead, she always carried the tube of Ficortril eye ointment with her and applied it as a thin layer as soon as her eyelids felt dry. Somehow, she managed to make the tube of Ficortril eye ointment last for over 3 months! Both Terracortril with Polymyxin B and Ficortril eye ointment are PROVIDED at Lindhé's Eye Clinic and are included in the operation price!
After surgery
Immediately after the surgery, you can drive and walk as usual. After 24 hours, you can shower, wash your hair, and wash your face, but the surgical incision should be washed gently. From the first to the second day after the surgery, the surgical incision should be cleaned with sterile compresses soaked in sterile saline solution (provided at Lindhé's Eye Clinic and included in the price). AFTER the first to second day, the incision should be dabbed with tap water using your freshly washed fingers until 1 day after the stitches are removed! Do not submerge your head underwater (e.g., in a pool or the sea) for 3 weeks.
Regarding sun exposure on the scars, scars will blend in better with the surrounding skin color after exposure to all seasons of the year, including spring, summer, fall, and winter sun, assuming sun exposure in Sweden. When it comes to sun exposure in countries closer to the equator than Sweden, stronger sun protection should be used than what would be used in Sweden.
